L&G Mortgage Club marks 30 years with £1tn in completions

Published on

Legal & General’s Mortgage Club is marking three decades in the industry with a year of celebration, having supported more than 56,000 brokers and facilitated over £1 trillion in mortgage completions since its launch in 1995.

Established as the UK’s first mortgage club, L&G’s proposition has grown to become one of the most significant players in the intermediary market. In its inaugural year, the club oversaw £1 billion in completions. 30 years on, it is involved in nearly one in four of all UK mortgages and almost a third of those arranged via intermediaries.

To celebrate the milestone, L&G will host the Mortgage Club Awards at the Guildhall in London on 6 June 2025. The event will recognise brokers and lenders who have demonstrated exceptional performance and commitment to the sector. Later in the year, the Club will convene a major industry conference in Northumberland Avenue, London. The full-day event will combine keynote addresses, panel discussions and networking opportunities, while reflecting on three decades of industry evolution and exploring the path ahead for mortgage advice.

GROWTH

Over the past 30 years, L&G’s Mortgage Club has grown its team to 34 and now partners with 112 lenders. Members benefit from a range of digital tools and CPD resources, including webinars, podcasts and live events. The Club also offers a procuration fee model that pays advisers on exchange rather than completion – a feature that remains unique in the sector.

The business has consistently invested in technology to support brokers. Its digital search system, first launched in 2019, has evolved into the Ignite platform – a tool now used by all Club members to source tailored mortgage solutions from across the UK market. More recently, in 2024, the Club launched Referral Pro to help advisers manage diverse client needs in line with Consumer Duty regulations.

Clare Beardmore, director of distribution and mortgage club, mortgage services at L&G, said: “Turning 30 is a big moment for Mortgage Club. We couldn’t have reached this milestone without the brilliant advisers, lenders, and colleagues who have supported us over the years. This anniversary gives us a chance to reflect on how far the industry has come and to thank those who made it possible.

“But it’s also about looking forward. With new technologies and evolving customer needs, we have plenty of opportunities to grow together. I’m excited to celebrate all of this in 2025 and to bring the whole industry along for the journey.”

The Club has indicated that further updates on its programme of events and product developments will follow in the months ahead.
