Leeds volunteers help at Bradford school

Staff from Leeds Building Society’s branches used their volunteering leave to tidy a memorial garden at Chellow Heights Special School in Bradford.

The area had become overgrown over the winter, so the mutual’s volunteers got it ready for use again in the spring with two memorial events planned at the end of May.

Activities for the four colleagues included gardening, digging out weeds, cutting back bushes and painting a fence.

The team were taking advantage of the Society’s volunteering scheme, which allows all employees a day’s paid leave each year to help in the community.

“We had an enjoyable day and the staff at the school really appreciated our efforts. It was strenuous but satisfying, especially when you could see the completed work,” said Nichola Mullaney, Leeds Building Society’s branch manager in Morley.

“When I saw the revamped memorial garden I was staggered at the difference,” said Katie Hansard, family support worker and charity fundraiser at Chellow Heights School.

“The Leeds Building Society volunteers did a fantastic job in just a few short hours.”
