Leeds Three Peaks challenge teams raise over £5,000

Climbers from the Leeds Building Society’s risk and finance teams successfully tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise a combined £5,500 for charity.

The 27 colleagues walked 25 miles, with a combined climb of 2,153m, up the mountains of Pen-y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m).

The mutual’s finance team raised £2,000 for Macmillan and Mind – including £690 in matched funding from Leeds Building Society.

The risk department (pictured) raised £3,500 for Candlelighters, with £1,000 matched funding from the Society.

The fundraising efforts of both the teams were supported by their colleagues back at Head Office through bake sales and sweepstakes.

“In difficult circumstances, battling injuries and horrendous weather conditions, the team pulled together and showed true grit and determination to succeed,” said Caroline Dale from the finance team.

“A massive thanks to our support team who did an amazing job meeting us at the bottom of each peak with drinks and snacks, as well as a dry place for some of us to change soaking socks.”

Kirsty Johnson from the risk team added: “Covering a distance of 25 miles in less than 12 hours whilst tackling the three highest peaks in Yorkshire was not an easy challenge.

“We are delighted to have raised £3,500 in total, and would like to thank everyone who has sponsored us and Leeds Building Society for providing matched funding.”
