A team of 13 colleagues from Leeds Building Society has completed a Coast to Coast cycle from Whitehaven to Sunderland.

This 140-mile distance was chosen due to the Society celebrating its 140th anniversary this year.

The cyclists beat their original fundraising target of £14,000, raising £17,400 so far for Alzheimer’s Society, the care and research charity for people with dementia and their carers.

Further donations can be made in the Society’s branches or online via https://www.justgiving.com/challengeoneforty

Trevor Garside, Leeds Building Society’s head of direct distribution said: “We are very pleased to have successfully completed this challenge, and delighted to have significantly beaten our initial £14,000 target to raise £17,400 for Alzheimer’s Society.

“It was hard work but very rewarding, and all in aid of a terrific cause with a great team spirit throughout.

“We undertake a national charity challenge annually, and our branches have joined in the fundraising effort with their own activities.”

Hannah Wright, Alzheimer’s Society senior regional corporate partnership executive – North, said: “A huge thank you to all the staff at Leeds Building Society who have taken on the challenge to cycle, dress up, bake and raffle their way to fundraising success.

“They have beaten their original target to raise over £17,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, which is a fantastic achievement. Thank you for helping us in our vison for a world without dementia.”
