The Leeds Building Society has celebrated the creation of 100 new jobs in 2014, taking to 300 the total of new colleagues recruited in the past three years.

The mutual, the fifth largest building society in the UK, now employs 1,145 colleagues, the highest in its history, across its national network of branches and its main offices in Leeds and the North East.

The Leeds appointed 100 members of staff in 2013, a further 100 last year and aims to expand its workforce at a similar rate in 2015.

“We have highly-motivated colleagues who are instrumental in delivering outstanding service to our members,” said Becky Hewitt, Leeds Building Society’s general manager for people.

“Our People Strategy focuses on recruiting and retaining the best talent and maintaining a high performance culture and colleague engagement is high.

“The average length of service is almost seven years, with over a third of our colleagues being with the Society for more than five years. We also run an Apprenticeship Scheme providing young people with excellent training and career development and continue to improve our tools for learning and personal development among colleagues.

“We have created around 100 new roles in 2014, and we aim to do the same again this year – so we offer lots of opportunity for career development for the ambitious.”
