The Leeds raises over £500 for BHF

The Leeds Building Society raised £550 in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) ‘Wear It Beat It’ day by colleagues taking part in red-themed events in support of the fight for every heartbeat.

The fundraising took place at the Society’s Head Office and branches. The mutual’s branches will attempt to increase the overall fundraising effort, by promoting the BHF’s red heart pin badges until the end of February.

Heart and circulatory disease is responsible for almost 160,000 deaths in the UK each year, an average of 440 people each day. There are currently seven million people in the UK living with heart and circulatory disease.

Gary Brook, Leeds Building Society’s head of corporate communication, said: “We got involved because we think the charity does great work. We are proud to have raised £550 so far for the BHF, and to have helped continue to fund the vital research needed to fight heart disease.

“We are confident of increasing the fundraising total further via our branches promoting red heart pin badges until the end of the month.”

Louise Parkes, fundraising director at the BHF, added: “A huge thanks to Leeds Building Society for their red-themed fundraising efforts. It has been fantastic to witness the UK rallying together and turning red in the fight against heart and circulatory disease.

“All money raised from ‘Wear it Beat it’ will help us truly make a massive difference to the millions of people living with these conditions.”
