The Leeds makes donation to Alice House Hospice

The Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £500 to a Hartlepool hospice which provides free specialist palliative and end of life care.

Alice House Hospice has used the donation to buy important equipment to make life easier and more secure for their patients.

“Our nursing staff find the ‘ReTurn 7500 transfer system’ very easy to operate and that it makes transfer, for example from bed to chair, much more comfortable for patients,” said Anita White, trust fundraiser at Alice House Hospice.

“The Hospice cares for over 550 inpatients and outpatients each year and provides a wide range of services. It costs £8,250 each day to maintain these services with only 17% of this being funded by the government. Pressure on fundraising to meet these requirements is high.

“It would be extremely difficult for us to afford to purchase expensive but necessary capital equipment like this without the help of trusts like Leeds Building Society’s Charitable Foundation.”

Joanna Dodd, branch manager at Leeds Building Society’s Durham branch, said: “The Charitable Foundation is delighted to make this donation and support Alice House Hospice.

“The Society and our members fund Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation, and this donation fits with our commitment to doing what’s right for our members, colleagues and communities.”
