Home Condition Surveys boost buyer confidence

Published on

New research from Countrywide Surveying Services (CSS) and Pegasus Insight reveals that 88% of homebuyers who used a home condition survey would do so again, underlining the crucial role these assessments play in the property market.

The survey also found that 92% of respondents said the process gave them peace of mind, reinforcing the value of independent property evaluations.

And six out of 10 (60%) home condition surveys uncovered previously unknown issues, helping buyers avoid unexpected costs and post-purchase complications.

DERAILING TRANSACTIONS

Despite these benefits, only 9% of buyers received a valuation below the agreed purchase price and just 2% decided not to proceed with their purchase after the survey – dispelling the notion that these assessments derail property transactions.

Instead of hindering sales, home condition surveys appear to bolster buyer confidence, contributing to a more stable and informed property market.

Yet the research also revealed a gap in buyer confidence, with 73% admitting they felt uncertain about navigating their property purchase.

INFORMED DECISIONS

Matthew Cumber, Managing Director at CSS, said: “This research highlights the immense value of home condition surveys in the homebuying journey.

“With 88% of buyers saying they would use a survey again and 92% finding peace of mind in the process, it’s clear these assessments are vital for making informed decisions.

“Beyond uncovering hidden property issues, these surveys give buyers the confidence they need while supporting a more transparent property market. The data shows that surveys are a source of reassurance, not disruption.”

COSTLY MISTAKES

And he added: “Helping clients understand the difference between a lender’s valuation and a home condition survey is key to preventing costly mistakes.

“By proactively recommending these assessments, brokers can strengthen their advisory role and ensure buyers receive the support and expert guidance needed to navigate today’s fast-moving property market.”
