Butterfield Mortgages appoints CEO

Butterfield Mortgages Ltd (BML) has appointed Alpa Bhakta as chief executive officer, having been promoted from her current position as Managing Director.

BML is a bespoke provider of mortgages for high net worth individuals in prime residential London and UK Home Counties.

The promotion comes as the business prepares for an expansion in the field of prime property lending to high net worth individuals, following BML’s recent appointment of four experienced business-development professionals: Ralph Punter, Christopher Watts, Amar Mashru, and Kevin Turmore.

Bhakta joined Butterfield in 2011 after a financial services career at BNP Paribas Fortis, following Credit Agricole Indosuez and before that NatWest.

She said: “I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of the CEO role. We have an excellent team at BML and I know I can rely on their enthusiasm and support in building an exceptional mortgage business.”

Michael Collins, chairman and chief executive officer of Butterfield Group, said: “Alpa’s appointment recognises her hard work during the past year in launching and growing BML. As CEO, she leads a world-class team that provides a unique service for our high net worth clients seeking premium UK property.”
