Building society boxes clever with programme to support young people and £250,000 community donation

Published on

Market Harborough Building Society has made a landmark donation of £250,000 to its community foundation, dedicated to supporting good causes across South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire over the coming years.

A significant portion of the £250,000 donation will be directed towards its ‘Thrive! Forward’ programme which aims to support young people in the areas of mental health, financial capability and resilience, and careers planning and employability skills.

The complex case specialist and bridging finance provider has also named Kheron Gilpin (main picture) as the ambassador for this programme.

Gilpin, an English amateur cruiserweight boxing champion and motivational speaker, embodies resilience and transformation. His inspiring journey and dedication to empowering young people make him the perfect fit for this role.

Gilpin said: “I’m honoured to be part of the Thrive! Forward programme. Supporting young people in their journey to success is something I’m deeply passionate about. Market Harborough’s commitment to empowering youth aligns perfectly with my values, and together, we can make a real difference.”

Iain Kirkpatrick, chief executive of Market Harborough, added: “Our commitment to the community is unwavering. Through the Thrive! Forward programme, we aim to empower young people with the skills and support they need to build a bright future.

“We’re excited to work with Kheron Gilpin and our community partners to make this vision a reality.”

SIGNIFICANT STRIDES

Under its Thrive! Agenda, the Society has already made significant strides in supporting its communities. It invested £2.2m in building seven new homes for those most in need in its local area and made large donations to food banks. Its colleagues donated over 2,000 volunteering hours in 2024 and over 60 community events were hosted in its head office at no cost.

The Society will be announcing the first partner charities soon.

This news comes after the Society recently announced another strong financial year in 2024, achieving a profit before tax of £3.4m. Market Harborough’s success means that it can continue to give back to its customers and communities through its Thrive! Agenda.
