Asset lender Borro and XPRO, a charity for former professional footballers in the UK, have announced a partnership agreement to market lending services to professional athletes.

Borro offers luxury asset loans of up to £2 million secured against assets including fine art, antiques, jewellery, luxury watches, prestige and classic cars, and fine wine.

XPRO, the Organisation of Ex-professional Footballers in the UK and Ireland, was incorporated in 2009 and aims to offer help, support and advice to former players.

In addition to advertising in XPRO’s Annual Corporate magazine, Borro will take part in a financial education programme and attend key XPRO events. XPRO is promoting Borro as a financial solutions partner and Borro will assist in providing educational seminars to current and former professional footballers.

Tom McDermott, chief commercial officer of Borro, said: “We feel that Borro is great fit for XPRO. Borro provides services that will allow former footballers and their families to achieve the liquidity they need quickly and with the utmost discretion. Borro is excited to expand its presence in the UK sports industry with XPRO.”

Geoff Scott, CEO of XPRO, added: “XPRO is proud to partner with Borro. They offer innovative services that can be tailored for our unique membership base. Former footballers are often presented with time sensitive opportunities that they want to take advantage of without delay. Borro allows them to get the capital they need in a private manner.

“In addition, as we are about to expand our services into all sports, the message and education supplied by Borro and XPRO will help prepare professional sports people for a life after sport.”
