The ASTL has announced the full line-up of speakers for its conference on 22 September at Painters’ Hall in the City of London.

The conference, entitled Lending in an Uncertain World, will look at the events facing bridging and short term lending.  It will also look at the wider economy and housing industry and what attendees can do to ensure that their businesses are fit for success and prepared for what might be coming around the corner.

The keynote speaker is Lord Daniel Finkelstein, a Times columnist, former adviser and speech writer for both John Major and William Hague. Lord Finkelstein was also a director of the social market foundation and chairman of the Policy Exchange. The ASTL said that his speech is likely to give “valuable insights” to both the political and social arenas, and will help attendees prepare for what might be around the corner.

Other speakers will include:

  • Lynda Blackwell of the FCA
  • Susan Emmett of Savills, a UK property analyst
  • Alan Capper, economist and former head of credit strategy at both Lloyds Banking Group and Lehman brothers. He will look at the UK’s aging population and what that means for both UK infrastructure and finance.
  • Nick Cartwright, tax partner at accountant Smith and Williamson, on the effects of the changing tax landscape.

The conference will take place from 9am-1pm followed by a buffet lunch.

Benson Hersch, chief executive of the ASTL, said, “The ASTL conference has become a renowned fixture in the calendar for lenders, advisers and suppliers to the bridging and short term lending industry.

“The conference will examine how everybody associated with the bridging industry can prepare themselves for a successful future by looking at what is around the corner that might affect our industry.”
