Arnold & Baldwin supports modern slavery charity

Arnold & Baldwin has held a charity day to support the work of Their Voice, which has been established to help victims of modern slavery.

The chartered surveying firm donated the time of 16 members of its team to sort through donations the charity had received to help provide a new start for individuals who have been rescued from modern slavery.

Joe Arnold, managing director of Arnold & Baldwin, said: “Thanks to a lot of lovely people and a Facebook campaign, Their Voice has been overwhelmed with donations, which needed to be organised. So, 16 of us spent a day at the charity, clearing through everything that had been donated and sorting it out so that it is all ready to be used by the people who need it most.

“With so many of us, what would have taken a month, we achieved in just a few hours, and everyone was very pleased to have been able to help.”

Last month, Arnold & Baldwin launched a campaign encouraging everyone involved in the homebuying process, including mortgage brokers, surveyors, conveyancers and estate agents to speak to home movers about donating items such as cots, prams and toys to Their Voice instead of throwing them away when they move to a new house.

The charity helps women who have been rescued from modern-day slavery and are often pregnant or have new-born children. It provides essential toiletries and basic practical necessities for birth and motherhood for these women, as well as supporting their children with practical support to meet their basic needs.

Carolyn Thorn from Their Voice, said at time: “At Their Voice, we work to empower, enable and give hope to survivors of modern slavery and we can only do this with the kind donations of people who support our charity. Financial donations are much needed to purchase items such as new cot mattresses, maternity items, hospital bags, etc., but if people are moving home and have good quality baby equipment that they are thinking of throwing away, we could use this equipment to help change vulnerable people’s lives.

“We are really delighted that Arnold & Baldwin has recognised the opportunity to help our charity and encouraged such donations.”
