Rob Gill, managing director of London-based Altura Mortgage Finance, is preparing to take on his first major endurance challenge this September to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Gill (main picture), who describes his fitness regime as “consistent but unspectacular”, will walk 75km along the River Thames as part of the Thames Path Ultra to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
“I rarely go a week without some form of workout, but I hardly ever do more than three,” Gill said.
“Other than a couple of 10k runs I’ve never done a ‘big event’. No marathons, triathlons, mountain hikes or sportives.”
The challenge has taken on personal significance following the recent loss of a close friend to MND and another friend currently living with the condition.
“Having lost a friend to this cruel disease earlier this year, and with another bravely battling the disease currently, our friendship group are doing what we can to support MND charities,” Gill said.
ACCESS TO CARE
“The MND Association focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND.”
And with this being his first endurance fundraiser, Gill is appealing for support.
“Given I’ve never done an event like this, I’ve never asked you for sponsorship before either. I would appreciate any and all support.”
The MND Association is the UK’s leading charity focused on improving care, funding research and campaigning for better support for people living with the disease.
