Aldermore has announced the appointment of John Wood to the newly created role of chief credit officer.

He joins Aldermore from Royal Bank of Scotland where he has worked for the last 27 years in a variety of portfolio management and risk roles. More recently he held responsibility for the embedding of a credit risk management framework in its asset and invoice finance businesses. He has also held a variety of senior credit risk roles involving credit sanctioning, credit risk appetite and policy frameworks, credit portfolio oversight and day-to-day credit origination and management.

In his new role at Aldermore, Wood will report to Christine Palmer, chief risk officer, and will join the Bank’s group risk senior leadership team. He will be based at the Bank’s Reading office.

Wood said: “Aldermore is on an incredible journey and is really shaking up the banking industry. I’m looking forward to being part of this, using my expertise to continue to build on the Bank’s enterprise risk framework supporting SMEs across the UK.”

Palmer added: “I am delighted that John is joining Aldermore. He is a great addition to our team, bringing experience, understanding and in depth knowledge of the financial services and risk management environment. Drawing on his expertise, he will play a pivotal role in the delivery of IFRS9 to the business.”
