Aldermore has announced the appointment of Glyn Jones as its new chairman.

During his executive career Jones was chief executive of the Coutts Group and, prior to this, general manager of international private banking at Standard Chartered Bank.

He has previously been non-executive chairman at Towry Holdings, Hermes Fund Managers and BT Pension Scheme Management. He is currently chairman of Aspen Insurance Holdings, a New York listed specialty lines insurance and re-insurance business, and Aspen Insurance UK, a subsidiary of the Aspen Group. He is also the senior independent director of Direct Line Insurance.

Phillip Monks, chief executive of Aldermore Bank, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract a Chairman of Glyn’s calibre and experience. As we continue on our path of successful growth it is an exciting time for Glyn to be joining us and I am very much looking forward to working with him.”

Jones said: “This is an extremely exciting time for Aldermore, which has grown considerably since it was launched almost five years ago and is now a well-established brand among UK banks. I feel privileged to have been appointed as chairman and am excited to be part of the next stage of Aldermore’s development in supporting British homeowners and SMEs.”
