Age UK benefits from Leeds members’ generosity

Leeds Building Society has donated £20,000 donation to Age UK.

British singer Jane McDonald accepted the donation on behalf of Age UK at Leeds Grand Theatre ahead of her performance on Thursday evening.

The £20,000 donation comes from Leeds Building Society’s Caring Saver and Your Interest In Theirs schemes, with £10,000 coming from each.

The first part of it is the annual payment from the Society’s Your Interest in Theirs scheme. This works by members agreeing to forego up to 99p of their interest each year. This money is then split equally between the four partner charities, Age UK, Save the Children, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation.

The second part of the donation, also worth £10,000, is from the mutual donating 1% of the average balances in all Caring Saver accounts equally between these same four charity partners.

Paul Farthing, director of Fundraising at Age UK, said: “The continued support from Leeds Building Society is fantastic and really helps Age UK to continue helping older people.
